The mother of all storms.....

I made it home...somehow. The storm last evening was in full force when I left. The white outs were frequent and there were several times I couldn't tell exactly where I was on the road. I suppose that is what happens when you combine 15+cm of snow with 100Km an hour winds!
I arrived home around midnight and I am on my way back to work now. I am not due in until 8am however the snow has let up a bit...the wind is still very strong but like I say the snow HAS let up some.

Keep your fingers crossed I make it in to work and back home again in one piece....

I'm tired out

I am totally worn out. I woke up exhausted, and had a headache. The headache has gotten worse, I ache and my throat hurts. I have way too much to do to get sick...it is way to close to Christmas for that. Hopefully tomorrow all these symptoms will be gone.

I WON!!

Well I didn't win so much as the government realized the shortchanged me at tax time! I had a really nice refund last spring but apparently they didn't take all my retirement contributions into account. I received a $692 check in the mail today for what they didn't give me before, and the best part?? It came in before Christmas!!! YAY!! It made my day!

Cute Video

Hehe this is too cute!

On a side note the snow has stopped and my road is plowed! About time!

Still no plow...

Okay so I got myself to work...I didn't need Perry to drive me after all. I got the little orange car turned around and somehow made it through all the snow. I figured the roads would be plowed by the time I got home. Not so much...It is now almost 1am and my subdivision has yet to see a plow. The snow has pretty well stopped. I am not sure if it is flurries or if it is just snow blowing around out there now. I sure hope that between now and morning it is plowed so the bus can get in the subdivision.

I have decided I live in the snow belt of the Annapolis Valley...

Holy FREAKING snow!!!!!!!!!

This is what I woke up to. We were only supposed to get 1cm or less...I am NOT an expert but there is WAY more than that out there. I tried to get my car out and I can't move. Perry across the street is going to take me into work...as soon as he gets unstuck that is.
My vacation south is looking better all the time.
Wish me luck...Lets hope I get to work...and more important...GET BACK HOME!!

I'm a slacker

I want to apologize for being such a slacker with the countdown updates. Blogger and I aren't getting along when it comes to uploading my photos. To be honest I haven't had the time to try and work the issue out. Hopefully I will be all caught up by tomorrow night.

What Would You Do??

Really there isn't much of anything I can do other than vent. I am super ticked off!!! As you all know I bought a car about two months ago. My father and a guy we know who works at our local garage checked the car out, including the tires, top to bottom before I bought it. I needed to get new snow tires for the car. Obviously the car tires weren't the same size as the snow tires I had for the van. In October Dad wasn't able to get me four snow tires at all, the place we deal with didn't have them. ( I should note we ALWAYS go to this place because dad works for Michelin and this place takes the coupons he gets from work). He was able to get me two but that was it. We had snow a few weeks ago and I still didn't have all 4 tires. Dad decided that he was going to call and try to get me the other two tires and if he couldn't get them we would leave 2 of the all seasons on and put on the 2 snow tires we had. Not a good idea but better than nothing. Dad went out and checked the tire size before he called to see if the tire place had my brand and size in stock yet. Dad noticed that no two tires on my car were the same AND they were bald and cracking!!!! I was miffed but thought maybe it wasn't as bad as he was trying to make it out to be. I mean he works for a tire plant, in safety no less, so that is his business. What isn't safe in his opinion may not even to be noticeable to anyone else. BUT when we took my car in to have the snow tires on the old tires were worse than even dad thought. Luckily the guy who had checked the car prior to my buying the car was working and said there was NO WAY the tires could have the tread worn down that much in less than two months. Especially given we know the exact amount of Kilometers I have put on the car since I bought it! I am so mad!! I am so lucky I didn't have an accident and kill myself or someone else!! I am VERY pleased to say I have 4 excellent tires on the car now. *SIGH* That's my vent for the week lol :P

It was a cool light up Santa Minnie Pen!!

And again...

And an upside down shot of the pen...

One day down...T-23 to go!

Let the countdown to Christmas begin!

In our house we try to pack all the Christmas fun we can into the 24 days leading up to Christmas. Every year Victoria's Godparents bring her a beautiful wall hanging/countdown calender. They always go above and beyond and fill each pocket with a small wrapped gift, instead of a chocolate or a candy cane. I have decided to count down with all of you by posting pictures of what Victoria and I get to open every day :)

Since today is the second of December already I will try to catch you up by posting the past two days and then try to post the updates daily with minimal disruptions.

I decided to include some pictures of the wall hanging so you can all see what I am talking about.

Quality Rink Time!

I got the call that Victoria has been promoted to the advanced group after only about a month. I am extremely proud and happy. This also means I get some quality rink time with some of my favorite rink mommas. I am actually looking forward to running all over the valley to whatever rink the schedule takes us, having a coffee and catching up with my girls. Come on weekend! I need my rink time lol.

Victoria's Purple Christmas Tree

With all the snow we have had over the past week, Victoria and I decided to start decorating for Christmas.
We started in her room with the tree her Godparents gave her:

It is fiber optic as well as having the coloured lights. I have posted a video so you can get the complete experience lol.

Winter Wonderland?

The flurries turned into a little more than anyone expected. That will teach me to joke about needing snow tires...looks like I really did need them. Driving was horrible even though we didn't get a lot of snow because it was right around freezing and it kept going between snow and rain before committing to snow. When it did freeze it made a slushy, soupy, icy mess. It took me forever to get home last night and I live less than 10 minutes away..it took me about 45 minutes.

Tonight I will make sure I have gloves and a snow brush/scraper. Last night I had to use my sleeve and my id....I am sure the use of my id to scrape my windsheild is frowned upon. I need a remote car starter. Maybe for Christmas?? *****HINT HINT HINT****

Snow Day

It is snowing....This is what I see looking out my front window.

Winter is here....I guess I should put winter tires on the car eh?

Victoria Lost Another Tooth!!!

Time for the tooth fairy again.

Isn't she cute??!

Video From The Rink

I'm sorry the quality on these totally suck. My camera is totally screwed. It wouldn't focus on anything but the stupid netting in front of me. She is number 27 and in the purple snow pants. She is in the front in the video. She still walks on her skates more than she glides but by the end of ice time she is gliding pretty much all the time. This video was from the first part of the ice time, since I became totally ticked off at my camera and threw it in the hockey/ringette bag.

This just hasn't been my weekend so far....

Mostly it is my own fault but that doesn't change the fact that it just isn't my weekend. I HAD plans for tonight ( well Saturday night...I guess it is after midnight so it is now Sunday.) but I cancelled them. Why? Well I cancelled them a while back when I was supposed to be having company. I was really excited since this person hadn't been home in forever. I guess I shouldn't have cancelled out until I knew the trip was a go. Needless to say the trip fell through and of course everyone else made new plans. I was really upset because I had been looking forward to the visit and I had been looking forward to the party and NEITHER ended up happening. But hey I didn't have to work so I figured the weekend would still be fine but things just didn't go my way. Not horrible or earth shattering but just enough to be annoying. I spent most of Friday at the rink. This morning I was at the rink again...freezing....the line was way too long at Tim Horton's so I didn't get a coffee, that made it seem even colder than it really was. Victoria was saying her throat was "dry" when she got off the ice but figured it was just because she was hot and tired out. We took my gram shopping, and had lunch with her. Victoria "seemed" fine. Later on in the afternoon D and I took her to the city to see the lighting of the Christmas lights and see the parade. That's when BOTH Victoria and I started feeling sick. Both of us tried to stick it out and have a good time but I know I certainly wasn't enjoying it. It was cold and rainy and we felt icky. Victoria's throat was really sore and she was complaining of a headache. I felt the same way. D brought us home but it was a really really long drive home. I got some Advil in Victoria and she seems to be feeling better. I still am not feeling great. I watched some hockey and wasn't impressed with the outcome. I hate shootouts. Let me just leave it at that.
I still have one day left in my weekend off, lets hope it gets better.

Another Good Night In Hockey For The B Boys!

The 6-1 win over Montreal last night proves that the B boys are back and in a BIG way. There was a comment I came across by Alexei Kovalev that made me laugh....however the writers at Ghosts of the Garden summed it up quite well...check it out.

Latin phrase of the week

Hic puer est stultissimus omnium!

Meaning:

This boy is the stupidest of all!

I wore my poppy...

but with a minor modification. I took the stupid little pin out of the middle. You know the one that stabs you or your children every time you move. The one that doesn't hold the poppy on just causes you to bleed. Yeah so I just got rid of the stupid little pin and replaced it with a Canadian flag lapel pin (the kind that has a back so it doesn't stab you). I did this for Victoria's too. I think this is the first time my poppy has survived until November 11.

Victoria Lost her Tooth....Finally

Victoria had 4...yes 4 loose teeth. FINALLY she lost one tonight. Out of all the ones that are loose I would have thought it would have been one of the top two but it was a bottom one that she worked free.

Time for the Tooth Fairy to make an appearance.

There was a snow storm in my hall....

actually it's baby powder! Victoria decided that she wanted to put some baby powder on before school. She couldn't seem to get the top to turn so the powder would come out. She started to come down the hall to find me when the top came off and the ENTIRE bottle of baby powder ended up on/in the carpet. I think this happened since she was carrying the bottle upside down at the time. It looked like I had a pile of snow in the middle of my hall...All she could say was "UH OH!!" I figure she must have pulled on the cap and had it almost off. Of course it couldn't have come off in the bathroom on the tile floor...no it came off in the hall...over the carpet...This is NOT the first time this has happened. Victoria dumped the container of baby powder out when she was a toddler. At least it wasn't the whole bottle that time. Still this took me forever to clean up. On the plus side my hall smells like baby powder......

This is going to be a long day...

I was up all night...I got zero sleep...I have a migraine the size of this province. I am finding it hard to function. The migraine is so bad it is messing with my vision....I feel like I am moving even though I am standing/sitting still. I forgot but today I have to work until 11pm tonight....I need sleep. I want to take something for the headache since over the counter stuff isn't touching it BUT I can't because I can't take it and go to work.
Maybe I will try to drink a coffee even though the smell is making me sick....5 hours down...12.5 hours to go until I will be home...Sigh

Saturday, November 8, 2008

Tonight I discovered.....

Chart cuts (paper cuts caused by cardboard medical charts...yes they are the worst type of paper cut you can get as far as I am concerned!!!) + Hospital Issued Alcohol Based Hand Sanitizer = PAIN!!!!

I truly think this could be used as some sort of torture. My hands will never be the same again!

Duct tape can do anything....

See I am not the only one who thinks duct taping people up when the won't listen is a good idea.

This reminds me I need to get more duct tape lol

In edition to all the other sports and activities Victoria is involved in she has started ringette. Today is National wear your jersey to school day. Victoria was very proud to wear her jersey to school even if it was too big.
